Job summary
Our Red Hat internationalization engineering team in Pune, India, is seeking an intern to work on the OpenType table rules for the open source Lohit fonts. These fonts were originally developed for Windows, and various customizations were created over the years. In this internship, you'll work closely with senior software engineers on the team to simplify and improve the OpenType rules for this family of fonts. This project will last for six months, but may be extended depending on need and results.
Primary job responsibilities
Learn and understand OpenType fonts, including GSUB and GPOS rules
Rewrite the OpenType tables for Lohit Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Oriya, Telugu, and Kannada
Ensure that the final version of these fonts work on both Fedora and Windows
Required skills
Currently studying (or bachelor's degree in) computer science, software engineering, or a related subject
A passion for open source software
Willingness to work on font technology and development
Interested in improving Linux open source support for Indic scripts
Experience with Linux development is preferred
